Aston Villa have snapped up Brentford defender Ezri Konsa.
Aston Villa swooped to sign Brentford’s Ezri Konsa on Thursday – and he’s already had great things to say about the club’s fanbase.
Whilst Dean Smith has tied up permanent deals for both Kortney Hause and Tyrone Mings, he still felt that Villa needed extra defensive help having lost loanee Axel Tuanzebe.
Moves for other defenders had seemed pricey, so Smith returned to former club Brentford to raid them for centre back Konsa, paying his £12million release clause.
Konsa, 21, only joined Brentford from Charlton Athletic last summer – under Smith – but has done enough in his one Championship season to earn a move to the Premier League.
Konsa has huge potential, and comes at a decent price given how other defenders were being priced this summer, whilst his reunion with Smith is a common theme this summer, given Villa also landed Smith’s former Brentford winger Jota too.
After securing his move, Konsa spoke to AVTV, and was asked what he thought of the Villa fans when he played for Brentford at Villa Park last season.
Konsa branded the atmosphere ‘immense’, paying a huge compliment to the Villa fans, and believes playing in front of them on a regular basis will be ‘something special’.
“The atmosphere was immense,” said Konsa. “For me to be here now, to play in front of the fans week in, week out, I think for me, it’s something special,” he added.
Villa’s fanbase is known up and down the country, and they will certainly play a huge factor in tempting players into signing, as playing in front of 40,000 Villa fans every week is something many players would love to experience – and Konsa is just one of them.
