Ezri Konsa and Matty Cash have reacted on Twitter to Aston Villa sacking Dean Smith on Sunday afternoon.
Villa confirmed on their official website that they have parted company with the Englishman after over three years in charge, winning promotion and then stabilising them as a Premier League club once more.
The duo were the first two to break their silence on Villa’s call and this is what they posted on Twitter:
On Friday evening, Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Southampton – their fifth defeat on the bounce in the Premier League and 18th overall in 2021.
No other team had lost more league games than the Midlands during this calendar year.
Therefore, from the perspective of the board, it was understandable why they let Smith go and felt that a change was needed.
There will be cries as to whether this is too harsh, given Villa lost their best player in the summer, or the right call because they were on the slippery slope.
Well, after spending heavily once again this summer, the club have started showing signs of regression, rather than progression.
Added with that, the style of play from the club had well and truly gone out of the window, which was also another big problem.
Only time will tell whether the correct call has been made, but one thing is for sure, Villa need to bring in a better manager than the one they have just sacked, else they should have just given Smith more time.
It does seem as though the call to part ways with Smith wasn’t down to these recent matches, but the performances in 2021 overall, because they simply haven’t been up to standard.
