Leeds United were given a scare by second-bottom Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, but came through with a crucial 2-1 win.

The Whites were heavy odds-on favourites to win the game, which is no great shock; the game pitted a promotion-chasing Leeds side against a relegation-threatened Bolton team.

Josh Magennis went close from point-blank range early on, before Tyler Roberts won a penalty for Leeds, with Patrick Bamford dispatching into the net.

Bolton hit back quickly though, with Mark Beevers scrambling home from close range, only for Leeds to win the game in bizarre circumstances.

Ezgjan Alioski’s left footed cross was completely mis-hit, but Bolton goalkeeper Remi Matthews misjudged the flight of the ball, and could it only palm it into the net via the bar.

Leeds will be delighted to have avoided a shock at Elland Road, and they would love the focus to be on a fine win rather than the touchline scuffle which has dominated headlines.

On Sunday, match-winner Alioski took to Twitter to send a message to fans thanking them for their support, whilst noting that his goal was ‘important’.

With games against Queens Park Rangers and West Bromwich Albion to come this week, Alioski admitted that it will be a tough few days, but Leeds will give it their all.
