Leeds United have sold Pontus Jansson to Brentford.
Leeds United have made a controversial move this week, as they sold popular defender Pontus Jansson to Championship rivals Brentford in a shock transfer.
Jansson, 28, has been a regular for Leeds since joining from Torino in 2016, spending a season on loan at Elland Road before making his move permanent.
The Swede has racked up more than 100 appearances for Leeds in all competitions, but now leaves for Brentford in a £5.5million deal (Yorkshire Post), leaving fans stunned.
Supporters will have felt that, if Jansson was leaving Leeds for another English club, it would have been to join a Premier League team rather than a Brentford side who, whilst harbouring great ambitions, finished below Leeds last season.
It seems that Jansson’s relationship with Marcelo Bielsa gradually deteriorated last season (Mirror), and with funds needed to balance the books, Jansson has gone.
Many Leeds fans have been rocked by the move, and Whites players have been sending Jansson messages on social media after seeing him leave Elland Road.
Winger Ezgjan Alioski has taken to Twitter to post a heartfelt message to Jansson, wishing him all the best and suggesting he will be missed, accompanied with a photo of the pair celebrating.
Jansson responded, sharing his love for the Macedonian international as the Swede said an emotional goodbye to his friends at Elland Road.
