Robert Earnshaw says he was ‘shocked’ when he heard about Arnaut Danjuma’s hijacked transfer from Everton to Tottenham Hotspur by stating that it’s ‘extremely unusual’.
Relegation-threatened Everton, who had just sacked Frank Lampard, thought they had Danjuma through the doors when he sealed what appeared to be a six-month loan move from Villarreal to Merseyside.
The issue the Toffees had is that it wasn’t all-but sealed, which allowed Tottenham to pounce at the very last second and lure the Netherlands international to London.

There were even suggestions that Danjuma had done his medical, media duties and even trained with Everton, before his remarkable u-turn.
Understandably so, those on Merseyside weren’t best pleased as it’s going to be very interesting how Danjuma fairs under Antonio Conte now.
Former Wales striker Robert Earnshaw was talking about how he was in a similar situation back in 2004 when deciding between West Brom and, ironically enough, Everton, as he shared his thoughts on Danjuma’s move, as he told Sky Sports News (25/01/23).
“Extremely unusual,” said Earnshaw. “By that point, you have made your mind up. As a player, you have thought about it, you have had the negotiations and, at that moment, you are set.
“All the details, whether it’s this club or that club, you are thinking ‘okay, everything is done, that’s their offer, I choose and I am going this way’.
“By that time, you are doing media. You are doing shirts. You are in the club and just about to do a medical. It’s pretty much done.
“At that moment, it’s very unusual that a team will come in very, very late and take you away from that position, so this is completely unforeseen. – I was completely shocked at this one.”

EVERTON V TOTTENHAM
The two sides will meet on April 1 and wouldn’t it be something if Danjuma ended up scoring the winning goal?!
In truth, both teams will be in the heat of their own respective battles – Everton trying to stay up and Spurs aiming to secure a Champions League finish.
If Danjuma doesn’t perform, added with the Toffees winning the game, then you can bet your bottom dollar they will make sure the winger knows about it.
