Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has moved to praise Calum Chambers after his display against Burnley on Football London.

Arsenal drew 1-1 at Turf Moor at the weekend, with Chambers making his first Premier League appearance since 2019 in the contest.

Chambers was drafted in at right-back to help give Arsenal an increased aerial presence against Burnley’s physical attack.

And Arteta says that the defender’s rare start was a reward for how well he has trained since coming back from injury.

“I’m extremely happy with him,” he said. “He deserved completely his chance to start the game because of the recovery he’s done, the preparation he’s done to get to the level he’s at at the moment and the way he trains and behaves every day.

“I think it was a really good game for him, for the needs that we had on the pitch and I think he had a really good performance.”

Chambers certainly did not do his case to start more often any harm.

However, it seems unlikely that he will keep his place in Arsenal’s starting line-up for an extended period.

Despite having a solid game, Chambers doesn’t possess the same attacking qualities or speed as Hector Bellerin, when selected to start on the right hand side of the Gunners’ backline.

Arsenal are next in action on Thursday evening, when they take on Olympiacos in the Europa League.
