Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Harry Maguire says he is ‘extremely disappointed’ at being stripped of the Manchester United captaincy.
The England defender shared on Instagram that he is no longer the captain of Manchester United ‘after discussions with the manager’, Erik ten Hag.
Last season, Harry Maguire lost his regular place at Old Trafford, and this latest news regarding the 30-year-old, only increases his chances of heading for the exit door this summer.
A number of Premier League clubs have expressed interest in the £190k-a-week player (Spotrac), including Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s best for Maguire’s career that he does leave his current surroundings, whether that’s joining another Premier League club or even moving abroad, he just needs to leave.
There have even been suggestions that Harry Kane wants him at Spurs, but you have to question those rumours because the England captain himself could be leaving his current club.

‘After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain,” said Maguire.
“He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.”
What next for Maguire?
The issue here is that Maguire’s England spot isn’t under threat, and if it was, then he would run out of the Manchester United doors.
But he could decide to go onto Love Island for the next few months and Gareth Southgate would still pick him to play at centre-back for England.
Therefore, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he doesn’t leave by the time the window slams shut in August, even though his career path needs a change.
