‘Extraordinary’ player will now cost £25m after West Ham bid £10m

Serie A outfit Spezia are now demanding £25 million for Jakub Kiwior after turning down a £10 million bid from Premier League giants West Ham United in the summer transfer window, according to Tuttomercatoweb. 

You know you’ve made it when one of the greatest centre-forwards of all time is describing you as an ‘extraordinary’ talent.

Kiwior certainly made an excellent first impression on a certain Robert Lewandowski during the September international break, taking his tally to four caps for Poland while staking his claim for a seat on the plane to Qatar. 

“Oh Lord, listen to me: this is a real player!” the Barcelona forward says of his 22-year-old compatriot.   

“I noticed this during the warm-up before the game against the Netherlands (a 2-0 defeat in the UEFA Natins League). I asked: ‘But who is he’? Then I saw him in the game. Extraordinary. Really great potential.” 

Could West Ham United return for Spezia’s Jakub Kiwior?

According to Tuttosport, Lewandowski has since recommended Kiwior to Barcelona. The La Liga giants will face plenty of competition if they act on the striker’s advice, however; TMW claiming that AC Milan and Juventus are willing to invest around £17 million in the 6ft 2ins centre-half. 

Spezia, however, are asking for a larger fee. One in the region of £25 million. That is more than double the amount West Ham offered in August, and shows just how rapidly the former Anderlecht youngster is developing his game on Italian soil (TMW). 

Whether West Ham plan to renew their interest only time will tell. It seems unlikely as things stand, however. The Hammers brought in the versatile German international Thilo Kehrer before the summer window closed, and now have Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson and the returning Nayef Aguerd competing for a starting spot.

The left-footed Aguerd impressed on his belated West Ham debut on Thursday night; a 1-0 victory over Silkeborg in the Conference League. 

“He’s a really good athlete, in good shape but he still hasn’t got any match practice,” David Moyes tells Football London. “He controlled the game, passed it well, got into a couple of races which he showed he’s capable of and it was a really good game for him. Hopefully that’s the start.”
