Extending Luke Amos contract a smart move by Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to extend Luke Amos’s contract.

Sky Sports’ Live Transfer Blog [14:09] reported on Friday that Tottenham Hotspur were set to begin talks with Luke Amos about a contract extension.

The 21-year-old impressed during Spurs’ pre-season tour of the United States and started friendlies against Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan.

Amos has proven himself a very promising young player and signing him up to a new deal is an excellent decision by Tottenham.

The Lilywhites’ youth policy has been called into question lately.

Reo Griffiths, the 18-year-old striker who scored 32 goals in the youth ranks last season, has left Tottenham to join Lyon.

The youngster is reported to have made up his mind after Mauricio Pochettino excluded him from the squad that travelled to the US [The Mirror], while Marcus Edwards, who this time last year was being tipped for a breakthrough season, has failed to make the grade and looks set to leave.

Losing two such highly-rated talents is bound to raise question marks over why Spurs can’t hold on to such potential gems but retaining Amos would equalise that to some extent.

Tottenham are also getting some pretty bad press after failing to sign a single player this summer, with under a week to go until the transfer window shuts.

Extending the contract of a potential star like Amos wouldn’t make all that go away, but fans could at least rest easy in the knowledge that what happened to Griffiths and Edwards probably won’t be happening to him.
