Alan Shearer has named his first Premier League Team of the Week of the season, and there are no prizes for guessing which team is the most represented within his side.

Indeed, the Newcastle United legend has picked two Magpies players in his team after the Tyneside club’s 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest over the weekend.

Fabian Schar, rightfully, earned a spot at centre-half after scoring a wondergoal against Forest, while Bruno Guimaraes earned a place in the midfield after his commanding midfield performance against the Tricky Trees.

Shearer reserved some special praise for Guimaraes, stating that the Brazilian ran the midfield.

What’s been said?

Shearer had nothing but good things to say about Newcastle’s star man.

“The Brazilian ran the midfield and produced some exquisite passing in a comfortable Newcastle win,” Shearer said.

First of many

Guimaraes has made Shearer’s Team of the Week for the first time this season, and we can assure you, this won’t be the first time the Brazilian features here.

The former Lyon man is clearly one of Shearer’s favourite players right now, and it’s not as though this praise is unfounded either.

Indeed, over the years Shearer has been known to slightly exaggerate the abilities of some Newcastle players, but when he says that Guimaraes is an exquisite player, he’s not wrong.

The South American is genuinely establishing himself as one of the very best midfield players in the Premier League, and if he keeps playing like this, the Magpies will be challenging towards the top end of the table.

Guimaraes absolutely deserves all of the plaudits he’s been getting as of late, and we’re sure that Shearer will go on the record to serenade Guimaraes a few more times before the end of the season.
