If Manchester City win the Champions League does 5th place in the Premier League qualify? Many have been asking this on Google.

As you may know, the winners of the Champions League automatically receive a place in the competition for the following season, leaving many to wonder how that affects the top four of the Premier League.

So, does 5th place in the Premier League get a Champions League spot if Manchester City win it? Let’s take a look…

Does 5th place in the Premier League get a Champions League spot if Manchester City win it?

Well, the short answer is no.

If Manchester City win the Champions League this season, that addition qualification spot will be handed to the champions of the country ranked 12th in UEFA’s coefficient table – according to ESPN.

That would see the champions of Ukraine given a spot in the Group Stage for the 2023/24 Champions League.

It will not see a drop down situation occur where whoever finishes 5th in the Premier League gets the spot.

That will be disappointing to hear for the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool, Tottenham and Brighton, who find themselves in a strong position to finish 5th but unlikely to end up in the top four.

What about the Europa League?

Interestingly, there will be a trickledown impact if Manchester City or Manchester United end up winning the FA Cup and also finish in the top four.

The winners of the FA Cup receive a place in the Europa League for the 2023/24 campaign.

However, seeing as both Manchester clubs are likely to qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the Premier League’s top four, that Europa League spot would go to whoever finishes sixth in England’s top-flight.

Whatever happens, it is shaping up to be a truly exciting end to the season across all competitions.
