What number is Cody Gakpo? Many Liverpool fans have asked this on Google after PSV Eindhoven announced his £37m move to Anfield.
The Reds do not have many leading kit numbers available to the Netherlands international, as Mohamed Salah owns the No.11 shirt Gakpo possessed at PSV Eindhoven, while Roberto Firmino wears No.9 on Merseyside.
So, what number is Cody Gakpo most likely to be given? Let’s take a look…
What number is Cody Gakpo?
Well, Gakpo’s number for Liverpool should be confirmed when his £37m move is officially announced by the Reds on January 1st.
In our view, the Dutchman is likely to be given the No.10 shirt which was left vacant after Sadio Mane joined Bayern Munich back in July.
It is also possible that Salah relinquishes his No.11 shirt to take that No.10 jersey, giving Gakpo the No.11 he wore at PSV Eindhoven, as the Liverpool talisman wears the No.10 for Egypt.

However, that is more likely to happen in the summer, as we rarely see changes made to kit numbers during the middle of the season.
Gakpo could also take the No.7 shirt from James Milner in the summer of 2023 – the veteran midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and it remains to be seen if he stays at Anfield.
The 23-year-old wore the No.7 shirt while playing for PSV Eindhoven’s Under-23 side, so that may be an option which interests him.
Here are the vacant squad numbers at Liverpool which Gakpo is able to choose from.

Did Cody Gakpo go to Liverpool?
Having said all of the above, Gakpo does actually need to complete a medical before his £37m move to Liverpool can be officially confirmed by the Reds.
At the time of writing, the versatile forward is currently on Merseyside undergoing his fitness examinations.
If he fails to pass, it would evoke memories of the infamous Nabil Fekir deal from back in 2018.
PSV Eindhoven somewhat jumped the gun by announcing the deal before a medical had taken place, although Gakpo has rarely been injured for them, so the Eredivisie outfit were clearly confident that nothing would go wrong.
