The former Hull City took the reins at Aston Villa in October.

Since taking the reins at Aston Villa last month, Steve Bruce has already been linked with moves for three of his old Hull City players.

If reports are to be believed, Abel Hernandez, Ahmed Elmohamady and Eldin Jakupovic could all be bound for Villa Park in 2017 – and there could be plenty more where they came from.

As many as six members of last season’s promotion-winning squad, of which Bruce was manager, are out of contract at the end of this season – among them some of the Tigers’ top stars.

Bruce’s captain Michael Dawson, England international midfielder Jake Livermore and this season’s talisman Robert Snodgrass each have seven months left on their deals, along with defender Harry Maguire, highly-rated left-back Andrew Robertson and ex-Villa man Shaun Maloney.

Maloney aside (he’ll be 34 in January), it could be argued that each one would be a useful addition regardless of which division Villa are in next year, and Bruce’s connections could put the Villans at the front of the queue to sign them.

Can’t wait until then? Perhaps he could tempt Hull with a succession of cut-price bids in January…
