Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Tottenham’s search for a new centre-back and Josko Gvardiol.
It’s something of an open secret that Tottenham want to add a new left-sided defender this summer, and they’ve been linked with a plethora of options.
It’s long been thought that Alessandro Bastoni was one of Tottenham’s very top targets, but according to Gold, there is actually one player above Bastoni on Spurs’ wishlist.
Indeed, the journalist states that RB Leipzig youngster Josko Gvardiol is genuinely above Bastoni and Spurs’ list of targets.
What’s been said?
Gold spoke about Gvardiol and Bastoni.
“I had heard that Gvardiol was actually above Bastoni on the wish list for that left-sided centre-back position. It was very much Bastoni and Gvardiol at the top and then a few more below that line. The Torres’s, Lenglet and of course Bremer, but he wasn’t a left-sided one. Gvardiol is class, he is absolutely class, 20-years-old a Croatia international and he’s expected to be a star,” Gold said.

Expensive
Tottenham may be desperate to sign Gvardiol, but, sadly, he may be slightly out of their price range.
Indeed, as Gold says, the Croatian is expected to be a star, and when you’re that highly-rated, you’re going to cost an arm and a leg.
According to CIES, Gvardiol is the second-most valuable defender on the planet and in a world where Harry Maguire costs £85m, Gvardiol will almost certainly set Tottenham back a club-record fee.
Of course, after receiving a £150m cash injection, Tottenham can afford to splash out on a player like this, but with a few areas that need plugging, splurging on one luxury signing may not be Tottenham’s best course of action.
