Speaking on the 1874 Podcast, The Athletic journalist Gregg Evans has provided an exciting transfer update on Aston Villa.

The Villans had a decent season in the Premier League, and they have a fantastic platform to build on next term.

Evans says that Villa will strengthen their squad, claiming that they plan to go big ona couple of new players this summer.

What’s he said?

Evans cut straight to the chase, claiming that Villa will spend a hefty sum on a couple of players this summer, while they could also sign a striker for a somewhat smaller fee.

“To cut a long story short, I’d expect Villa to go big on a couple of players, a wide player who can play as a number 10, there are reports in the industry that Villa are looking at a striker as well, don’t expect them to go big on him, and a little bit of movement in the defence as well,” Evans said.

Top six push

If Villa get these signings right, they could be pushing for the top six next season.

If reports are to be believed, the wide player Villa could go for may be either Emi Buendia or Dwight McNeil, while we don’t know which other position Villa are going to spend big on.

The defence seems to be quite settled at the moment, so the other big addition could be in the middle of the park, but of course, that’s just speculation.

It certainly looks as though this transfer window could be a very exciting one at Villa Park.
