Keith Downie has claimed that Yasir-Al Rumayyan will fly over from Saudi Arabia for Newcastle’s game against Tottenham on Sunday, as he told Sky Sports News.

The 51-year-old is the ‘head of the Public Investment Fund’ of Saudi Arabia that purchased Newcastle and is also the club’s new ‘non-executive chairman’.

There will no doubt be a number of fresh faces in the VIP seats at the weekend, as a new dawn begins in the North East.

At this moment in time, all the club can do is plan for the short-term because, whilst the takeover had been in the offing for some while, everything was pushed over the line at short notice.

Either way, this is what Downie had to say about Al Rumayyan making the trip from Riyadh to Newcastle at the weekend.

“I believe Yasir-Al Rumayyan, who is the new non-excutive chairman of the club,” said Downie. “And also the head of the Public Investment Fund, the govenor of PIF of Saudi Arabia.

“The plan is for him to travel here to Tyneside and take in the match at St James’ Park behind me, in what will be a big fan-fare and celebration. Tickets are sold out already for that game.

“It’s the first time, in a long time, that all tickets are sold out here at St James’ Park. That shows how excited the supporters are for that.

“Expect Yasir-Al Rumayyan to make that journey from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia on Sunday to look at what his company has purchased out on the pitch.”

It will be interesting to see what those in the boardroom make of Steve Bruce and whether he will be in the dugout for the visit of Spurs.

There is a lot of talk about him possibly getting the boot, now the club has new owners, but even if they want him gone, how long have they been able to really plan out there short to medium term goals?

One thing is for sure, it will be party-like atmosphere and the fans won’t want it ruined by Harry Kane wheeling away in celebration by scoring his first Premier League goal of the season.

The England captain has been out-of-sorts all campaign and the Toon Army faithful will be hoping that continues on Sunday
