The striker left Plymouth Argyle in the summer and yesterday joined their Devon rivals Exeter City

Fans of Devon’s two Football League clubs have been giving their reaction on Twitter after former Plymouth striker Reuben Reid signed for Exeter yesterday just days before the two sides face each other at St James Park.
Reid left Home Park in the summer after four largely successful seasons with the Pilgrims, most notably scoring a hat-trick against Exeter in the Devon Derby at St James Park in February 2015.

In a move that has riled his former fanbase, however, the 28-year-old striker has just put pen to paper on a deal with their bitter rivals.
He told the Grecians’ website that “he couldn’t wait to get the deal over the line” and is looking forward to working with long-serving City boss Paul Tisdale.

Players representing both Devon clubs is not unusual; Jamie Mackie, Gary Sawyer and Mark Molesley are just three examples of those that have done so in recent years, while current Exeter loanee Luke Croll had a temporary spell with Plymouth last season.
Jamie Mackie also played for both Devon clubs
However, the fact Reid turned down a new deal with Argyle in the summer and has ended up joining their local rivals has left a bitter taste in the mouth of the Pilgrims faithful, who have taken to Twitter to express their anger.
Predicably, Exeter fans did not waste any time in sticking the boot in to their rivals having secured what could turn out to be quite a coup for the League Two strugglers.
It is yet to be confirmed whether the striker will line up for his new club against his previous employers on Saturday, but the signing has added excitement to the build-up and increased the existing animosity between the two sets of fans.
Both sides may be in the fourth tier, but the rivalry is an intense one – if Reid scores the winner this weekend, his hero status in Exeter will be secured for years to come no matter what happens in the rest of his spell with the Grecians.
