Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Nuno Espirito Santo was quite dismissive when commenting on the ‘Spurs DNA’.

What’s the story?

Well, the £146,000-a-week Tottenham man was speaking to Sky Sports about his playing style.

The Portuguese coach has come in for some criticism since replacing José Mourinho, due to a defensive style of football.

It somewhat goes against Tottenham’s ethos of playing exciting, attacking football, which has been mentioned as part of their DNA.

However, Nuno doesn’t sound interested in that right now, and effectively said he’s just trying to get the best out of the options at his disposal.

The 47-year-old said: “With all due respect, it is not what guides me. What guides me are the players, how to improve them so that we can achieve what our fans want. Working with the players in a progressive way is what moves me.

“We value all the opinions and the DNA of the club. But the job is about what we have.”

Some Tottenham supporters below weren’t too happy with these comments, although we can’t see anything wrong with them.

It’s Nuno’s job to squeeze the most out of what he has, and despite some shaky moments, he is doing a decent job – Spurs are just four points off the top of the Premier League.

Tottenham must give Nuno time

It was obvious that Nuno wasn’t Daniel Levy’s first choice to replace Mourinho, or else the appointment wouldn’t have taken all summer.

It’s also obvious that some supporters are still struggling to let go of Mauricio Pochettino and his exciting style of play.

However, none of that is Nuno’s fault, and he has to be given time with these players to show what he can do.

The three-game losing streak to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal wasn’t pretty, but aside from that, Tottenham have won their other five Premier League games.

The most important thing is that there are signs of improvement – that’s all supporters can ask for at this stage.

Nuno walked into a totally chaotic club over the summer, with fans furious, Harry Kane wanting to leave, and problems at Boardroom level.

Despite that, he has done a decent job.

For now, let’s see what the Tottenham fans on Twitter have been saying about his comments…
