- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Wigan Athletic winger Jordan Jones is attracting Championship interest with Sheffield Wednesday among the interested clubs.
HITC understands that a number of Championship clubs are hot on the trail of Northern Ireland international Jordan Jones.
The Wigan Athletic wide man is out of contract at the end the season and Wigan are ready to look at an extension for the 29-year-old.
But Jones has been impressing for Shaun Maloney’s men this season and is now attracting interest from the Championship.
HITC understands that Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town would like to take the former Middlesbrough and Rangers man.
Jordan Jones in strong form this season
Jones joined Wigan in the summer of 2021 as he looked to get his career back on track.
The former Middlesbrough wide man signed for Rangers in 2019 after shining for Kilmarnock but couldn’t really make an impact at Ibrox.
Jones spent time on loan at Sunderland but then moved to Wigan in 2021, before heading back to Scotland for two loans with St Mirren and Kilmarnock.
The 29-year-old was in danger of fizzling out as he struggled to settle, but he has been back to his best this season.
Jones has racked up six assists and one goal in 16 League One games this term, as well as recording three assists in the EFL Trophy.
Wigan will be delighted to see Jones thriving but that usually attracts attention – and Championship clubs now appear to be circling with intent.

Leam Richardson could reunite with Jordan Jones at Rotherham United
One of those interested clubs is Rotherham United, who are managed by former Wigan boss Leam Richardson.
Richardson was in charge of Wigan when Jones joined the club in 2021 but the winger played just 17 games under him, recording no goals and two assists.
Richardson allowed Jones to go out on loan in 2022 but may well have seen something in him to maintain an interest down the line.
The Millers are in a battle against relegation and are still eight points adrift of safety.
Star winger Chiedozie Ogbene left for Luton Town and summer signing Andre Green is out for the season, so Rotherham need attacking reinforcements.
Richardson may feel that Jones is now ready to make a Championship impact and a surprise reunion could yet be on the cards with the Northern Irishman in demand.
