Livingston defender James Penrice is attracting interest from a number of clubs ahead of transfer deadline day with Rangers one of them.

HITC understands that a number of clubs are considering a beat-the-deadline day bid for Livingston left-back James Penrice.

Penrice is out-of-contract in the summer, and he has received pre-contract interest from both Hearts and Hibernian.

The two Edinburgh rivals are both considering a move ahead of Thursday’s deadline, hoping to land him now rather than in the summer.

HITC also understands that Penrice is a player Rangers are considering, now their deal to land Brazilian Jefte has collapsed after his loan club APOEL refused to cancel his deal.

Fluminense talent Jefte had been a top target Rangers as they seek a left back signing but he is now staying in Cyprus at least until the end of the season.

There are also a number of Championship clubs who have held talks to sign Penrice having impressed for Livingston.

Who is Livingston defender James Penrice?

Penrice hails from Livingston but started his career with Partick Thistle youth ranks.

The 25-year-old spent time on loan at East Fife and hometown club Livingston before becoming a first-team regular with Partick Thistle.

Penrice racked up 114 appearances for the Jags before returning to Livingston permanently in 2021.

Primarily a left back, Penrice has also played in midfield and has been an outstanding attacking threat with 15 assists in his 108 Livi appearances.

Penrice seems ready for the next step in his career and it’s no surprise to hear of interest from Hearts and Hibernian.

Rangers are now a surprise entrant into the race, possibly seeing Penrice as cut-price competition for places whilst being a homegrown player.

Penrice is one to watch on deadline day, but if no deal is done then we could see the race really heat up given his contract situation at Livingston.
