Plymouth Argyle on are on the verge of signing free agent Matthew Sorinola after his release from Union Saint-Gilloise.

HITC Football understands that Plymouth Argyle have agreed terms to sign wing back Matthew Sorinola.

The former MK Dons wing-back is a free agent after leaving Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise ahead of the January transfer window.

Sorinola has been talking to a number of sides – but has now agreed a long-term deal with Argyle.

This will be another new addition for new Argyle manager Ian Foster after signing Tottenham Hotspur talent Alfie Devine on loan this afternoon.

Argyle just lost a wing back as loanee Kaine Kesler-Hayden was recalled by Premier League side Aston Villa.

The Pilgrims have now moved quickly to land a replacement with Sorinola heading to Home Park.

Who is Plymouth Argyle target Matthew Sorinola?

Sorinola started his career in the Fulham youth ranks but was released as a teenager, paving the way for a move to Milton Keynes Dons.

After a loan spell non-league side Beaconsfield Town, Sorinola became a key player for MK Dons in the 2020-21 campaign.

Sorinola excelled in League One and landed a move to Belgium, signing for Union Saint-Gilloise – the club owned by Brighton and Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom.

Sorinola has never really got going in Belgium and spent last season on loan at Swansea City, playing under his former MK Dons boss Russell Martin.

The summer saw Sorinola head back to Belgium but he wasn’t in the plans at USG and had his contract terminated in late December.

Capable of playing as a wing back on the left or right flanks, Sorinola offers versatility and the 22-year-old could yet offer big potential if he can get his career back on track.
