EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Zinedine Zidane is waiting to see if the France job becomes available this summer before making a decision on his future amid links with Manchester United and Chelsea, HITC understands.
Intermediaries have been trying to put Zinedine Zidane’s name forward to the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United, but HITC has been told by sources that the 51-year-old’s preference is a national role, ideally with France, ahead of a return to club management at this point – although that is not being ruled out.
Manchester United-linked Zinedine Zidane eyes France role
Zidane’s former France teammate Didier Deschamps is currently in charge of Les Blues and is contracted to the 2026 World Cup, but his future will be dependent on their performance in Germany this summer.

Erik ten Hag is in charge of Manchester United at the moment. The Dutchman is not going to lead the Red Devils to the Premier League title this season, but the team could end up in the top four of the league table. HITC has previously revealed that new United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe does not plan to sack Ten Hag this summer.
United are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 44 points from 26 matches, eight points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. They will face Manchester City in the Manchester derby this weekend.
Zidane a very successful manager
Zidane has been without a managerial role since leaving Real Madrid at the end of the 2020-21 season.
The French legend led Madrid to the La Liga title twice and won the UEFA Champions League thrice.
Zidane was the Madrid manager from 2016 until 2018 before returning to the Spanish club in 2019. As a player, he was hugely successful too, winning La Liga and the UEFA Champions League with Los Blancos and the Euro 2000 finals and the 1998 World Cup with France. Zidane also won the Serie A title twice with Juventus.
