John Barnes has told HITC Sport that he hopes that Daniel Sturridge does not leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Sturridge has been on the books of Liverpool since January 2013 and has a contract with the Reds until June 2019, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The England international striker was a key figure in the Reds’ challenge for the Premier League title in the 2013-14 season, but since then he has struggled with injuries.

During the 2014-15 campaign, Sturridge was able to feature in only 12 Premier League matches, scoring four goals in the process.

Last season, the former Chelsea striker scored eight goals in 14 league games, while so far this campaign he has found the net twice in 14 Premier League fixtures.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told The Guardian last month that he will review Sturridge’s future at the end of the season.

The Daily Star reported last week that West Ham United are interested in signing the former Manchester City striker.

Former Liverpool star Barnes hopes that Sturridge remains at Liverpool next season.

“Well, I would like to think that he should stick around,” Barnes, who is an ambassador for Bonus Code Bets, told HITC Sport when asked if Sturridge should stay at Liverpool or leave in the summer transfer window.

“How is he going to move? First of all, someone has to make an offer for him, someone has to sign him and pay his salary.”

“Daniel Sturridge is a fantastic player,” added Barnes. “If he is fit and he is motivated, I would like to see him stay at Liverpool.

“What I would like to see is a fit and motivated Daniel Sturridge, and in those circumstances, of course I would like to see him stay.”
