What next for Tottenham prospects Josh Onomah and Kyle Walker-Peters.

Last summer Josh Onomah and Kyle Walker-Peters were part of a special England under-20 team which won the World Cup in their age group.
Their past year at club level has been less productive.
This weekend’s performance from Serge Aurier at right-back showed what a tough task Kyle Walker-Peters has to force his way into the club’s plans.
A year ago Walker-Peters was starring at St James’ Park, producing a man-of-the-match performance as Spurs won against Newcastle.
A week later Spurs signed Serge Aurier, and Kieran Trippier’s rapid improvement in form has left him with a mountain to climb to get into the team.
Walker-Peters’ best hope was that Aurier’s struggles from his first season would continue. A promising display at the weekend from the Ivorian suggests this may be unlikely.

The young full-back can also play at left-back, but Spurs keeping Danny Rose to compete with Ben Davies makes it tough for him.
Perhaps his only hope now is that Rose is sold abroad before the European transfer deadline.

Josh Onomah’s chances are not much better. He was loaned to Aston Villa last season where he was inconsistent, and left Spurs wanting to sign his teammate Jack Grealish.
Injury has disrupted his pre-season but another loan looks like his best prospect of first team game time.
There is still time for both players to prove themselves at Spurs, but they need to be patient, and they need good fortune if they are to still succeed at the club.
