Rangers midfielder Steven Davis has backed his international teammate Jamal Lewis to sign for Newcastle and labelled him an ‘exciting talent’, as he told Sky Sports News (06/09/20 at 9:50 pm).

The Telegraph claim that Norwich left-back, Lewis, is set to join the Magpies after both clubs agreed on a fee of £13.5 million for the Championship ace.

Newcastle were busy in the transfer market yesterday because they snapped up Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, and it now seems another one could be heading their way.

Northern Ireland international, Davis, has seen the highly-rated youngster grow on the international stage and described the Norwich academy product as a ‘real modern-day full-back’.

“He’s an exciting talent,” Davis told Sky Sports. “He has a lot of potential aswell. We have seen him here grow with the time he has been with us already.

“He’s an exciting attacking full-back and a real modern-day full-back, so I am sure, if that’s what he wants, then Newcastle do sign him it will be an excellent signing for him.”

It wasn’t long ago that things were looking pretty dreary on Tyneside because yet another potential takeover of the club collapsed.

Newcastle were in a dangerous situation because off-field matters could have easily filtered onto the pitch and affected performances ahead of the new season.

But these new signings coming through the St James’ Park doors have added a much-needed freshness to the club, and most importantly, improved the starting XI and squad – Lewis is no different if he puts pen-to-paper.
