Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson in action
According to a report from The Sun, Newcastle United are interested in snapping up Swansea City playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer should they win promotion.
Sigurdsson, 27, has continued his reputation as one of the Premier League’s top playmakers this season, notching eight goals and 11 assists despite a disappointing season for the Swans.
The Iceland international has bounced back from a difficult spell with Tottenham Hotspur to hit top form with Swansea, where his performances have attracted interest.
The Sun note that, whilst Everton, Southampton and West Ham United are all keen on Sigurdsson whether Swansea suffer relegation or not, Newcastle are now ready to join the race for his signature.
The report bizarrely claimed that the deal would be worth just £15million, which just simply isn’t happening as Swansea will value their star man at around double that value.

In fact, The Chronicle now claim that Newcastle won’t be pursuing a deal for Sigurdsson, though manager Rafael Benitez will be looking for new additions should the Magpies – as expected – win promotion back to the Premier League.
The rumours of a move for Sigurdsson had sparked a real reaction among Newcastle fans though, with many excited about the possibility of signing one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers.
Many believe that Sigurdsson is exactly what Newcastle need, and is the big-name signing needed in the Premier League – but fans unsurprisingly found the rumours hard to believe, and want to focus on winning promotion before planning signings.
