Jack Harrison has told BBC Radio Leeds that he is ‘excited’ to grow into a more central role at Leeds United after Jesse Marsch shifted his position since taking charge at Elland Road.
Marsch enjoyed his debut in the Whites dugout at Leicester City last week after replacing Marcelo Bielsa at the helm. Harrison started the King Power Stadium contest in his custom left-wing role, yet tasked with playing more narrowly in the American’s 4-2-2-2 formation.
The slight tweak in role helped Harrison offer a stronger performance than he has managed in recent weeks. He created numerous goalscoring opportunities and found space behind the Foxes. But a lack of clinical shooting and an inspired Kasper Schmeichel proved costly.

Harrison has struggled for form for most of the Premier League tern so far since his £11m permanent transfer. The 25-year-old has only scored four goals and assisted once after 24 appearances since joining from Manchester City. He also scored three at West Ham alone.
The English attacker was a far greater creative force in the Whites’ maiden campaign back in the top-flight last season. He offered eight goals and eight assists over 36 games under Bielsa last term. He also scored six and assisted eight in the 2019/20 Championship term.
Harrison ‘excited’ to grow in new central role under Marsch at Leeds
Harrison accepts his form has not been where he nor Leeds want or need it to be this term, so is excited to see what Marsch’s appointment brings. The Stoke-born dynamo also hopes the arrival of fresh ideas and a tweaked role helps to rediscover his lost output.
“With the change in formation and change in tactics, I’ve been asked to play in a little bit of a different role, which I am excited about,” he said. “I grew up playing in a more central role as a number 10, so bringing back some old memories from when I was a kid is nice.

“I really enjoy playing in that system and I’m hoping to see a more improved Jack Harrison, score more goals and have more impact on games. But at the same time, continue that work ethic and determination defensively to get the job done.”
