Stewart Downing has claimed that Liverpool possibly signing Darwin Nunez could ‘excite the fans’.
Liverpool are on the verge of completing a deal for the Benfica hitman, with BBC Sport reporting the deal is worth £64 million, with around £21 million in add-ons.
With Sadio Mane’s future at Anfield unclear and Mo Salah yet to sign a new contract, something had to give on Merseyside.

Like the Reds did with Luis Diaz during the January transfer window, they are trying to be one step ahead.
That seems to be the case here, as Downing labelled Nunez as an ‘exciting’ player, whilst speaking to Sky Sports News.
“He is the ideal signing if he is going to replace Mane,” said Downing. “I have watched him. He is an exciting player.
“If Mane goes, they need a big signing and someone to excite the fans and someone to replace him. He is the ideal candidate you are looking at.”

LIVERPOOL HAVE ALREADY HAD A TASTE OF NUNEZ’S TALENTS
Luis Diaz faced Liverpool in the Champions League, before he was snapped up by the club.
And the Reds have also had a taste of Nunez’s talents, who scored against them in the Champions League knockout stages this season.
The all-action striker was even bigged up by Virgil Van Dijk, who seemingly had a big part to play in his soon-to-be arrival.
All in all, with Erling Haaland joining Manchester City at the other end, this has made things very interesting going into next season’s Premier League title race.
