Wolverhampton Wanderers’ coach James Collins praised Taylor Perry after the in-form midfielder scored a stunning free-kick in the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace’s U23s this week, speaking to the clubs official website.
It is 13 months now since the teenager made his professional debut under Nuno Espirito Santo in an EFL Cup clash with Reading.
And, if he continues to produce match-changing moments of brilliance at reserve level, it won’t be long before Perry is making another first-team outing in Old Gold.
The England youth star was left out of the XI against Palace but come off the bench to clatter home a Beckham-esque, 25-yard free-kick in the second half, his fourth goal in just five games this season.
“TP’s unbelievably unfortunate not to play really because he’s been excellent as of late, but we felt that with the boys we had back from the first-team group, that was the best way to go,” says Collins, who opted instead to hand Porto loanee Vitinha a place in the XI.
“TP was unlucky not to start but has come on and scored. He’s probably our best goal threat at the moment.”

Wolves have now lost two successive games at U23 level but Collins still felt there were plenty of positives to take out of a game in which Christian Benteke and Scott Banks scored stunning goals for Palace.
The Wolves coach was full of praise for former PSG defender Rafa Nya (below) and fellow stopper Cyriaque Mayounga Ngolou at full-time.
