Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are delighted by the report that Jack Clarke might not be going anywhere.

Spurs spent £10 million on signing the 19-year-old winger from Leeds United 14 months ago.

But the youngster is still nowhere near Tottenham’s senior side after a couple of difficult loan spells away from North London last season.

Another loan is possible for the rest of the 2020-21 campaign but Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has reported that Jose Mourinho has been left ‘very impressed’ by Clarke in recent weeks and wants to keep him at Hotspur Way for this season.

The report adds that Mourinho wants Gareth Bale – also a left winger – to mentor him after the latter returned to the Lilywhites on loan from Real Madrid.

By virtue of the fact he cost an eight-figure sum at the age of just 18, there’s a lot expected of Clarke at Tottenham, and some fans are happy to hear that he’ll be spending this season with the club, in close proximity to the likes of Mourinho and Bale.

This might make sense for the England Under-21 international.

That’s because a third failed loan spell in the Championship for instance could set him back a big way in terms of confidence.

And if he’s impressing Mourinho, then presumably he has found a pep in his step and although a successful loan in the second tier could do wonders for him, a poor spell away from the capital could also do damage for his development.
