Rangers fans aren’t the only ones who appreciate McCoist these days

If a football pundit’s name is trending on Twitter, it usually means they’re being criticised.
When that pundit is Ally McCoist, however, it’s more akin to a nationwide love-in.
The former Rangers star has become a cult hero on account of his enthusiastic co-commentary stints alongside Jon Champion, and the pair once again delivered the goods on Wednesday during Amazon Prime’s coverage of Newcastle v Liverpool.

McCoist who scored 355 goals in 581 appearances for the Ibrox club, trended on Twitter for the second time this month as fans lavished praise on the co-commentator.
Among those jumping on the McCoist bandwagon was BBC presenter and former Tottenham, Barcelona, Everton and Leicester striker Gary Lineker.
He tweeted: “Ally McCoist is an excellent co-commentator. Knowledgeable, as would expect, but with a light touch.”
As is clear from the tweets below, Lineker was not alone in lapping up an evening of prime McCoist.
2020 might not have been the easiest of years, but if you remember it beginning with Ally McCoist on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny and ending it with Ally McCoist on co-commentary you can just forget the bit in the middle.
