Kenny Dalglish has backed Frank Lampard for the vacant manager’s role at Rangers and claimed that he has ‘excellent credentials’ for the role, as he told the Sunday Post.
Steven Gerrard made a shock exit from Rangers this week and headed towards Aston Villa’s dugout.
It’s a call that has left many surprised, especially given that the Englishman leaves as the Gers are heading to a very busy period of the season.
Regardless of how those at Ibrox feel, they can’t dwell on it too much because they have an important semi-final against Hibernian coming up in the Scottish League Cup after the international break.
But as one legendary midfielder leaves Rangers, Dalglish has backed another in Lampard to replace his former England teammate in the hot seat.
“Of the candidates I mentioned, I think Frank has excellent credentials,” said Dalglish.
“In his first job at Derby County, he showed lots of promise. That’s why Chelsea took him on. I thought he was very unfortunate to lose his job at Stamford Bridge and deserved more time.
“He still has a good relationship with Chelsea and that might be beneficial to Rangers if he can bring one or two players to Ibrox on loan from London.”

Lampard was sacked by Chelsea in January and he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel in the Stamford Bridge dugout.
After spending millions and millions in the transfer market, Lampard, who has also managed Derby, struggled in his second season in the Chelsea role.
It didn’t help matters when the guy that replaced him went on to win the European Cup several months later.
It needs to be remembered that Lampard has more experience than when Gerrard did when he was first snapped up by Rangers, so it would be a wise call from the club to bring in the Chelsea legend if he is on their wishlist.
