Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Kevin Campbell has been discussing Cedric Soares and his recent performances for Arsenal.

The Portuguese full-back has been deputising for the injured Takehiro Tomiyasu in recent weeks, and he’s done a stellar job.

Indeed, Arsenal have tightened their grip on the fourth-placed spot in the Premier League since Cedric came in, and he’s barely put a foot wrong.

However, despite being impressed by Cedric, Campbell says that he will be dropped as soon as Tomiyasu is back in action.

What’s been said?

Campbell gave his view on Cedric.

“No disrespect to Cedric, I think Cedric has been excellent, he has outperformed my expectation in this team and he’s done a really good job, but Tomiyasu is our number one, it’s similar to when Tavares came in earlier this season and Tierney came back as the number one,” Campbell said.

Know your role

Cedric has done a better job than many expected in recent weeks, but upon Tomiyasu’s return, he has to know his role and return to the bench.

The Japan international didn’t lose his spot through bad performance, injuries are what has been keeping him out, and once he’s back, Arsenal will be better off with him in the starting XI.

That’s not to say that Cedric will never be able to become a starter, but due to Tomiyasu’s brilliant form at the beginning of the season, it’s hard to justify leaving the summer signing on the bench.
