Sunderland are in the final stages of sealing a half-season loan transfer for Jack Clarke, with the Tottenham Hotspur winger due on Wearside this Wednesday for an obligatory medical.
That’s according to football.london, who report Clarke will join the Black Cats for the rest of the term. Lee Johnson has moved to sign the forward as the Stadium of Light natives battle for the League One title. Sunderland currently trail Wigan Athletic only on goal difference.
However, Sunderland have played four more times than the table-topping Latics, who have 54-points after 24 games. Rotherham are also only a point behind in third with two games in hand. Johnson’s main issue has been the Black Cats’ six draws to 16 wins over 28 games.

So, Johnson will hope Clarke can help fire Sunderland into the Championship during a loan transfer from Tottenham. The 21-year-old is in desperate need of minutes, having failed to break into Nuno Espirito Santo nor Antonio Conte’s plans in north London this season.
Clarke has featured just once for Spurs in all competitions, with a sole outing in a Europa Conference League qualifier. The England U20 winger featured for 45-minutes in their 1-0 loss at Pacos de Ferreira in August. He has only appeared in one matchday squad since.
Tottenham outcast Clarke must seize on loan transfer chance at Sunderland
Tottenham will hope Clarke secures consistent minutes in a loan transfer to Sunderland for the rest of the season. His sole appearance in a squad since facing Pacos was also in the Europa Conference League, but sitting on the bench for Spurs’ group stage loss at Vitesse.

Clarke’s lack of games means he has only featured four times for 95-minutes since joining Tottenham from Leeds United. Spurs paid the Whites £10m for his transfer in 2019, while returning to Elland Road on loan before stints with Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City.
Yet Clarke only featured 14 times for Stoke, seven times for QPR and three times while on loan at Leeds. He also only offered two assists and no goals over those 24 outings, despite Noel Whelan dubbing him ‘excellent’ from the very start of his senior Leeds career in 2018.
