Some Tottenham fans on social media have been reacting after The Athletic reported that Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Donny van de Beek last summer.
Mourinho was reportedly keen to bring the midfielder to north London, but unfortunately, the fact that he was unable to move Tanguy Ndombele on ended any hopes of that move.
Van de Beek ended up joining Manchester United, and it’s fair to say that he’s not had the best of times at Old Trafford, struggling to cement himself as a key player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Tottenham fans had an interesting reaction to hearing this news. Some fans claimed that they’ve missed out on a gem in van de Beek, while others believe that they’ve had a lucky escape and are glad that Ndombele stayed.
To be honest, it’s almost impossible to judge what van de Beek would have been like at Spurs. We’ve seen so little of him at Manchester United, so it’s hard to judge his performances in the Premier League so far, but at Ajax, he looked like a star so it’s not crazy to assume he would have been brilliant in England under the right manager and in the right team.
