Borussia Dortmund were thrashed 5-1 at home by Stuttgart on Saturday afternoon – and it proved to be Lucien Favre’s final game in charge.
Favre has been sacked after a number of troubling results, having won just one of his last five league games in charge.
With his contract winding down anyway, it’s no great surprise that Favre has gone – but his replacement is somewhat surprising.
Dortmund have confirmed that assistant boss Edin Terzic will take charge until the end of the season, when Dortmund are expected to make a big appointment – Marco Rose is a likely candidate.
For Terzic, this is a big step; the 38-year-old has never been a manager in his own right before, but West Ham United fans may remember him.
Terzic was Slaven Bilic’s assistant in East London having also worked with the Croatian at Besiktas, but after leaving West Ham along with Bilic in 2017, he joined Dortmund with Favre in 2018.

A former Dortmund scout, this is some rise for Terzic. He will now be taking charge of Dortmund’s Champions League knockout clash with Sevilla, and attempting to get Dortmund back into the Bundesliga title race.
That isn’t easy for any coach, never mind a relative youngster in his first managerial job. West Ham fans may be looking on closely, as Terzic could go on to be a huge success with one of Europe’s top clubs, three years after leaving the Hammers.
