The former defender appeared to reference the Hammers’ crowd trouble at the London Stadium.
Prior to Tottenham kicking off their Champions League opener at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night, former hero Graham Roberts aimed what appeared to be a thinly-veiled dig at London rivals West Ham United on Twitter.
Spurs will be playing their European football at the national stadium this term. and hosted AS Monaco in their first group-stage fixture on Wednesday night.
The move to Wembley has been a hot topic in the build-up to the campaign, with suggestions, depending on who you listen to, that the 80,000-strong crowd in a relatively unfamiliar location will either benefit or hinder Spurs.
However, former defender Roberts appeared delighted to see his side take up residency there when tweeting before kick-off.
The man who won two FA Cups and a UEFA Cup with the North London side in the 1980s wrote: “Fantastic support at Wembley from fantastic supporters and no fighting among our own supporters.”
Though he did not make it as explicit as such, the “no fighting” comment appears to be a jibe at the expense of Spurs’ bitter London rivals West Ham.
The Hammers are also in a new stadium this season, albeit in a full-time capacity at the London Stadium, and are having some difficulty adjusting to life in a new home.
The clash with Watford at the weekend, in which the Hammers collapsed from 2-0 up to lose 4-2, was marred by fighting in some areas between West Ham fans in the ground.
Roberts appears to have been quick on the draw to slip in a snide reference to that trouble, a comment which will likely have Spurs fans smirking.
