Former Tottenham players react to Hugo Lloris’ contract extension.
Tottenham Hotspur fans received an early Christmas present from the club on Thursday when it was announced star goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has signed a new contract.
The club confirmed on their official website that Lloris has signed a deal until 2022, ending any speculation his future may lie elsewhere.
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris applauds fans after the game
Lloris has been at the club since 2013, and has been one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League, and in the view of many, the very best in the division.
Former Tottenham stars reacted with delight to the announcement, with ex-defender Gary Stevens hailing it as a ‘huge statement’ from the club and the player himself.
Also overjoyed to see head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s arm around Lloris’ shoulder was ex-player Graham Roberts, and former player and manager Ossie Ardiles, who both also took to Twitter to comment.
Tottenham have been prolific at tying their top players down to extended deals through 2016, and Lloris was the final piece of the jigsaw.
Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Dele Alli, and Jan Vertonghen are among those to precede Lloris in committing their future to the club, and Tottenham have a spine of their team which looks set to continue staying strong for years to come.
