Sylvain Distin told Stadium Astro that he doesn’t think reported Tottenham target Josh King has the ‘same’ goalscoring qualities as Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson.

The former centre-back played with both players during his short stint at Bournemouth and he believes that King has ‘great energy’ and someone like Troy Deeney would be a ‘really, really good option’ for Jose Mourinho.

TalkSPORT claimed at the end of August that Spurs were keen on Wilson, who has since moved to St James’ Park, and they are also interested in King, who is still at Bournemouth.

Former Everton player Distin shared his own thoughts on who Spurs should potentially sign in order to bulk up their attacking options.

“Josh King, yes, I mean he has great energy going forward,” Distin told Stadium Astro. “Does he have the same qualities as Callum Wilson to score goals? I don’t think so.

“Troy Deeny, I think, is a really, really good option. Great character and I can see him having a really good influence in the dressing room and he would definitely be happy to be in the Premier League and be like a second striker.

“He’s done it at Watford. He didn’t play every single game, he had a few injuries, but still, he was putting in some really good performances. So, for me, that would be a good choice as well.”

  5. Gareth Bale

The Daily Mail have reported that Deeney is attracting interest from Spurs after suffering relegation to the Championship with Watford last season.

Even with all this talk about Gareth Bale, Football London have said that Spurs are still targetting another striker, even if they sign the Real Madrid star.

So, could a Deeney be a viable option for the North London club because he is approachable given that he is a Championship player, at this moment in time?
