Lord Sugar seems to be behind the prospect of Mauricio Pochettino returning to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham fired the Argentine coach in November of 2019 but a poor first season at Paris Saint-Germain, culminating in losing the Ligue 1 title by a point, has prompted speculation over his long-term future in France.

According to The Sun, the 49-year-old has told his friends that he would like to return to Spurs as Jose Mourinho’s long-term successor.

Here’s how Sugar responded when asked about Pochettino’s potential return on Twitter:

Is Pochettino coming back to Spurs?

Well, there’s no doubt Tottenham fans would love him back.

Yes, he failed to win a trophy during his five-year spell in North London, but the fact that the Lilywhites were competing for Premier League titles – and a Champions League after reaching the final in 2019 – illustrates that the club were, at one point, firmly headed in the right direction under the former Southampton coach.

The wheels wound up coming off in quite a big way but nobody can deny that Pochettino has been Spurs’ most influential manager in recent decades.

That being said, he was still fired by chairman Daniel Levy and although Pochettino might acknowledge that it wasn’t personal, it still might have stung the man and he’s well within his rights to tough it out in France rather than come back.
