Tottenham Hotspur served up their finest display of the season so far as they hammered Stoke City 4-0 at the Bet365 Stadium this afternoon.

After scoring just three goals in their first three games of the season, many had suggested that Spurs had yet to really impress – but they certainly showed their quality against Stoke today.

Spurs took the lead against Mark Hughes’ side through South Korean winger Son Heung-min, and the 24-year-old – who had been linked with a summer move away from White Hart Lane – doubled their lead in the second half.

Dele Alli then got his first goal of the new season, before Harry Kane also got off the mark to round off the scoring and give Spurs a 4-0 win away at Stoke, just as they did in April.

After some solid if unspectacular performances so far this season, Spurs really hit top gear against Stoke today, and their display has been hailed by a host of former Tottenham stars on Twitter.

Ex-striker and current Match of the Day host Gary Lineker stated he felt Spurs were looking ‘impressively impressive’ against Stoke as they look to improve on last season’s third place finish.

Micky Hazard also posted a message about the win, drawing particular attention to the goal from striker Kane, who had come in for criticism for his early-season performances.

Graham Roberts was particularly impressed with the performance, hailing the entire back four having kept a clean sheet, noting that it was Alli’s best display of the season, congratulating Son and Kane for their goals, raving about Christian Eriksen and commenting on the competition for places in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
