The former referee gives his verdict on whether the Tottenham Hotspur man should’ve been sent off.

Former top-flight referee Keith Hackett has told talkSPORT that Moussa Sissoko should have been given a red card in Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Burnley on Sunday.

Tottenham moved to within a point of fourth-placed Arsenal with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at White Hart Lane, but there was controversy.

The French winger – who had already assisted Dele Alli’s equaliser in the first half – escaped with a yellow card for what looked like a high and late challenge on Stephen Ward.

Minutes later, Sissoko, who joined Spurs for £30 million in the summer, went on to set up Danny Rose for the winner in a turn of events which had Clarets boss Sean Dyche fuming.

“I think that was a red,” he told talkSPORT. “It’s almost a coward’s sort of challenge and the face of the boot is showing. This is the difficulty.”

It perhaps deserved more than a yellow card but Mauricio Pochettino won’t care. These sorts of decisions happen almost every week and perhaps Tottenham have already been victimised by individual moments of poor refereeing this season.

It is all swings and roundabouts, but it is easy to feel sorry for Dyche at the same time in the knowledge that Sissoko went on to set up the winner shortly after the tackle.
