Rangers took striker Vladislavs Gutkovskis on trial two years ago.
With Rangers looking to re-establish themselves at the pinnacle of Scottish football, they have explored various avenues in pursuit of top signings.
The Gers often brought in signings from English football under Mark Warburton, whilst signings from Portugal or Mexico have been common under his replacement Pedro Caixinha.
Rangers also took to bringing in trialists under Warburton, with the likes of Maciej Gostomski, Philippe Senderos and Serge Atakayi all joining for training in bids to win deals.
All three of those players earned deals with Rangers, but one player who wasn’t quite so lucky was striker Vladislavs Gutkovskis, who headed to Rangers for a trial in December 2015, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
The Latvian hitman had impressed with Skonto Riga before heading to train with Rangers, and the forward even told the Daily Record that he enjoyed his time with Rangers and desperately wanted to earn a permanent deal.
However, Rangers and then-manager Warburton chose not to pursue a permanent contract, but the Gers won’t feel too bad about missing out on the striker given his record with Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza in Poland.
Gutkovskis hit the net just eight times last season and hasn’t scored in nine games this term, suggesting that he may not have had much of an impact with Rangers, despite his promising trial.
Instead, Rangers now have Alfredo Morelos leading the line, and given his goalscoring feats this season, they certainly wont be looking at Gutkovskis’ record in Poland whilst wondering what could have been.
