It seems quite a long time ago now, but Dominic Solanke was once firmly on Rangers’ radar.

Solanke was heavily linked with the Gers for much of the summer in 2018, before speculation of a winter loan cropped up toward the end of that calendar year [talkSPORT].

A move to Rangers never materialised in January and Solanke wound up signing for Bournemouth in a £19 million move [The Echo].

It’s a huge fee, one that ensured Steven Gerrard never stood a chance of bringing the 6’2 striker to Ibrox on a permanent basis, but it’s safe to say he’s struggling.

Despite joining in January, Solanke is yet to score a Premier League goal for Eddie Howe’s side.

Drawing a blank during his 77-minute stint in Friday’s win at Southampton means that the former Liverpool and Chelsea player has now gone 16 league games without finding the net.

Those weren’t full games, but the English attacker has played a total of 569 minutes in the Premier League for the Cherries – the equivalent of 6.2 entire matches.

You couldn’t exactly argue that Rangers dodged a bullet, because any transfer to Glasgow would’ve been on loan and he surely would have had more joy in the Scottish Premiership.

But it does make you wonder whether a year-long stint working under Gerrard would have better prepared him for England’s top flight, given how much Ryan Kent improved under the iconic midfielder last season.
