Rangers chairman Dave King has been slammed by Kris Boyd.

Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that Rangers chairman Dave King needs to be ‘very, very careful’ with his comments about Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The Gers have enjoyed a promising summer so far, bringing in eight players to boost Pedro Caixinha’s squad as Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Carlos Pena, Daniel Candeias, Dalcio, Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos have all arrived at Ibrox.

Caixinha now has to attempt to make Rangers competitive in the Scottish Premiership last season, having seen Old Firm rivals Celtic completely dominate Scottish football under Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic went through a domestic campaign unbeaten, winning all three domestic trophies they competed in whilst finishing a whopping 39 points ahead of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table.

Whilst many would believe that Rodgers has done a remarkable job at Celtic, Rangers chairman Dave King seemingly isn’t quite so impressed with the Bhoys’ exploits last season, or by Celtic’s six league titles in a row.

King first told the Daily Record that he thinks Celtic should be even further ahead of Rangers right now after the Gers spent four years outside of the top flight, and then suggested to the Rangers YouTube channel that Celtic’s title wins without Rangers being in the top flight ‘don’t count’ as they chase Rangers’ nine-in-a-row record.

The comments have been met with derision from Celtic fans, and former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has now told The Scottish Sun that even Gers fans should feel that King’s comments are ridiculous, suggesting that he is approaching his job as a fan rather than an executive.

Boyd claimed King’s comments about Celtic were ‘laughable’ and don’t make any sense, and added that King should be ‘very, very careful’ given that Rangers have signed a number of untested players this summer, and his comments could spark a real reaction from Celtic next term.

“He’s supposed to be the captain of the ship but right now all he’s doing is saying what he thinks the supporters want to hear, playing to the galleries for all he’s worth,” said Boyd. “He’s got season tickets to sell of course and I wouldn’t be surprised if the deadline for renewing them is fast approaching. He’ll be hoping the fans jump on the bandwagon of saying: ‘Dave King is one of us’. But I can’t believe any reasonable-thinking Rangers supporter will buy into his latest nonsense about how Celtic are only on two-in-a-row.

“They’ll be asking why he wants to behave like this and create the headlines that he has. It’s been a good few weeks for Rangers. They’ve signed players, brought in a new director of football and got rid of Mike Ashley. On the face of it, things are looking a lot better off the park. But King can’t help himself, can he? None of it makes any sense though. Even the stuff about how Celtic should be further ahead is laughable because as things stand they are virtually out of sight.”

“King is just saying what comes into his head as a fan, not as the leader of a major company. I just don’t know how he can think coming out with these types of statements is helpful ahead of the new season. Sure, Rangers have signed a few players but a lot of them are untested in Scotland. If I was Dave King I’d be very, very careful about what I was saying right now,” he added.
