Glasgow Rangers fans will continue to feel a sense of pride as the former Ibrox sensation helps his current club to Premier League Cup glory.

While Rangers fans will be hoping that Billy Gilmour goes on to enjoy a brilliant career, it must be difficult for Gers fans everytime they hear about the latest achievements that the 16-year-old has ticked off.

Gilmour left for Chelsea’s academy last year. And while it may appear to be a gamble as a youngster to make the move to Stamford Bridge – given the number of players who spend most of their time on Chelsea’s books out on loan before ultimately leaving permanently without a senior appearance – the midfielder has undoubtedly shone during his time with the Premier League side.

And he notched up another accolade in his brief career as he helped Chelsea win the Under-18 Premier League Cup against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Gilmour – who had scored five goals leading up to the final against Spurs – did not get on the scoresheet in the 2-0 win, but did play a crucial role in securing the trophy.

It was the teenager’s sublime disguised pass that set Charlie Brown through to score his and Chelsea’s second in stoppage-time at the end of the first-half to ensure that it would be the Blues lifting the trophy at the expense of Scott Parker’s men.

Many Rangers supporters will be pleased to see Gilmour doing well and proving that he did not make a bad move at all by heading to Chelsea, but it must be near-on impossible for the Ibrox faithful to not wonder what could have been had they managed to keep him at the club as it certainly appears that he remains on track to head right to the very top of the game.
