Rangers are still pursuing a local coach to work alongside new manager Pedro Caixinha.
Kevin Thomson in action for Rangers
Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has told BT Sport that he has held talks with Pedro Caixinha over a possible return to Ibrox.
Caixinha saw his Rangers side draw 1-1 at home with Motherwell on Saturday afternoon, with the Gers failing to build on the 4-0 win over Hamilton Academical from his first game in charge.
The Portuguese boss is still settling into life at Ibrox, and whilst he has brought coaches Helder Baptista, Pedro Malta and Jose Belman to Glasgow with him, one position remains vacant at Ibrox.
Caixinha wants to bring in a ‘local’ coach to help his transition into the job; somebody with knowledge of Scottish football and, preferably, experience of being around Rangers as a player.
So far, fans have known of five ex-Gers players who have interviewed for the job; Barry Ferguson, John Brown, Peter Lovenkrands, Alex Rae and Jonatan Johansson – but another name can now be added to the list.
Ex-Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has told BT Sport that rumours surrounding talks with Caixinha over the job are true, and he was ‘humbled’ to even be asked for discussions over the role.

“I’ve tried to stay under the radar and stay away from the media,” said Thomson. “I was in to see him (Pedro Caixinha) and we had a really good chat. He’s a really impressive man and has got a clear idea of what vision he would like the club to take. I was humbled that he invited me in to have a chat with him,” he added.
Thomson, now 32, joined Rangers from Hibernian back in 2007, and spent three-and-a-half years at Ibrox, racking up 109 appearances for the club whilst also winning two league titles.
Having ended his playing his career in 2016, Thomson is now working as a pundit, and may be something of a dark horse to join Caixinha’s staff.
