Mark Warburton takes his Glasgow Rangers side to Parkhead to face their bitter rivals on Saturday.

Derek Ferguson has responded when asked by Rangers’ official website to name his favourite game of all-time, and unsurprisingly, it involves a clash against their Old Firm foes.
The 49-year-old – whose younger brother Barry went on to captain the Gers during his career – made 111 league appearances for the Ibrox side before he departed for Hearts in 1990.
Ferguson’s younger brother Barry was also no stranger to Old Firm clashes
And ahead of the first Old Firm game of the season, Ferguson picked out which one that he featured in sticks in his mind the most.
“Probably the League Cup Final in 1986 when I played and we beat Celtic. Getting Man of the Match was great, but to play alongside Ian Durrant, one of my best pals at the time, was absolutely great,” he told the club’s official website when asked to his favourite game.

“But just being at Rangers Football Club was what I wanted to do, and doing that was probably my biggest achievement.”
The game was undoubtedly a big moment in the club’s recent history. After an extremely disappointing campaign the year before, that had seen the Light Blues finish fifth in the top flight and fail to make any major impact in the cup competitions, the final beckoned in one of the most successful periods the Gers have enjoyed.

That season saw the first of 12 league titles in the following 14 campaigns, while they would also go on to retain the League Cup crown in the following two seasons.
And Mark Warburton may perhaps be hoping that some parallels can be drawn between the seasons leading up to that final and this upcoming meeting – while Rangers’ campaign last year was a successful one, they were obviously not battling at the summit of the Scottish game – and Saturday’s clash perhaps comes at the beginning of another trophy-laden chapter in the club’s history.
