Hill was let go by Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha in June, and failed to agree terms with the Ibrox side’s English namesakes Queens Park Rangers last week.
Carlisle boss Keith Curle
Carlisle United manager Keith Curle plans to touch base with Clint Hill, after the former Rangers defender failed to agree terms with QPR last week.
Hill swapped QPR for Rangers in summer 2016, and proved a popular Ibrox recruit – scoring six goals in 30 appearances, including the equaliser in March’s Old Firm draw at Celtic Park.
Nevertheless, the 38-year-old found himself released by the new Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha at the end of last season, and subsequently trained with League Two sides Carlisle and Chesterfield.
Clint Hill in action for Rangers
But a return to QPR looked likely last week, after Hill helped the R’s Under-23s to a 5-0 win against their Bolton counterparts – who fielded the former Real Madrid forward Julio Baptista – only for the London club to announce afterwards that they would be re-signing the Liverpudlian.
And Curle, who was assistant manager while Hill was at Crystal Palace and QPR, hopes to take advantage of the situation.
“He was close to getting a deal at QPR but the deal didn’t suit both parties,” the Cumbrians’ boss told the News and Star. “I’ll touch base with the lad.
Queens Park Rangers boss Ian Holloway
“He’s got very good qualities and understanding of the game, and is a good character – that’s why the invitation was there [to train with us in the first place].
“I’ve known Clint a long time and know what he’s about. If we’re able to do something, if it suits both parties, we’re still in there.”
Rangers brought in Portuguese centre-backs Fabio Cardoso and Bruno Alves to replace Hill and Rob Kiernan, who signed for Southend United last month.
