Former Rangers forward Gordon Dalziel has, perhaps surprisingly, suggested that Michael O’Halloran can still have a great career with the Gers as long as he takes his punishment following recent events, The Scottish Sun reports.

O’Halloran has been banished from training with the Light Blues’ first-team by boss Pedro Caixinha after failing to turn up for an under-20s game that he was meant to be involved in, according to The Scottish Sun.

And while some Rangers supporters may feel that this incident coupled with his lack of success during his time with the club should mean that his departure should be imminent, Dalziel – who was similarly ordered to train with the youngsters during his time with Raith Rovers – has suggested that the 26-year-old can actually salvage his Ibrox career.

“He now needs to take that punishment and show the gaffer he is worthy of a first-team jersey,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“O’Halloran needs to emerge from all this a stronger character. But he can do that.

“It’s up to the Rangers manager to decide what happens next, but if the player is prepared to admit he’s made a mistake, I’m sure he’ll be fine.

“O’Halloran might still have a great future at Rangers. I have been out there in the wilderness, and I know there is always a way back.”

Although Dalziel is optimistic that O’Halloran can potentially turn things right around under Caixinha, most Rangers fans would surely need convincing.

While there was plenty of sympathy for him when Mark Warburton was continually overlooking him – considering the fact that it was Warburton who brought him to the club – he has arguably damaged his relationship with the fans beyond repair.

And while Dalziel still feels that there is a chance for him, it will surely take an incredible run in front of goal – if he gets the chance – and a flawless attitude off the pitch to give him the slightest opportunity to salvage his time with the club.
